Checkable Conditions for Contraction After Small Transients in Time and Amplitude

چکیده
Contraction theory is a powerful tool for proving asymptotic properties of nonlinear dynamical systems including convergence to an attractor and entrainment to a periodic excitation. We consider generalizations of contractionwith respect to a norm that allow contraction to take place after small transients in time and/or amplitude. These generalized contractive systems (GCSs) are useful for several reasons. First, we show that there exist simple and checkable conditions guaranteeing that a system is a GCS, and demonstrate their usefulness using several models from systems biology. Second, allowing small transients does not destroy the important asymptotic properties of contractive systems like convergence to a unique equilibrium point, if it exists, and entrainment to a periodic excitation. Third, in some cases as we change the parameters in a contractive system it becomes a GCS just before it looses contractivity with respect to a norm. In this respect, generalized contractivity is the analogue of marginal stability in Lyapunov stability theory.

Contraction after small transients
Contraction theory is a powerful tool for proving asymptotic properties of nonlinear dynamical systems including convergence to an attractor and entrainment to a periodic excitation. We consider three generalizations of contraction with respect to a norm that allow contraction to take place after small transients in time and/or amplitude. These generalized contractive systems (GCSs) are useful ...

Objective(s) Achillea genius is widely used in traditional medicine for gastrointestinal disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aqueous-ethanol extract of Achillea wilhelmsii on rat’s gastric motility in basal and vagal stimulated conditions. Materials and Methods Twenty four Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups: control and test. The extract was prep...

متن کاملStability analysis and feedback control of T-S fuzzy hyperbolic delay model for a class of nonlinear systems with time-varying delay
In this paper, a new T-S fuzzy hyperbolic delay model for a class of nonlinear systems with time-varying delay, is presented to address the problems of stability analysis and feedback control. Fuzzy controller is designed based on the parallel distributed compensation (PDC), and with a new Lyapunov function, delay dependent asymptotic stability conditions of the closed-loop system are derived v...
متن کاملKinetics of activity-evoked pH transients and extracellular pH buffering in rat hippocampal slices.
The kinetics of activity-dependent, extracellular alkaline transients, and the buffering of extracellular pH (pH(e)), were studied in rat hippocampal slices using a fluorescein-dextran probe. Orthodromic stimuli generated alkaline transients < or = 0.05 pH units that peaked in 273 +/- 26 ms and decayed with a half-time of 508 +/- 43 ms. Inhibition of extracellular carbonic anhydrase (ECA) with ...
